What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete medical system that is used to treat and cure a wide variety of acute infections and chronic illnesses. It was conceived more than two centuries ago in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.  The main concept is like cures like, the idea that a disease can be cured by substance which produces similar symptoms in a healthy person.  After an in-depth consultation patients are treated with natural remedies.  Homeopathy is a healing modality, which views the person as a connected being, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually, not by a diagnosis or collection of symptoms.

Homeopathic remedies are made from diluted substances we find in nature such as plants, animals, minerals and many others. Hahnemann discovered that such substances in large amounts caused too much suffering in a sick person, but minute doses of a substance triggered a better healing response. The usual example given is the remedy Allium Cepa, made from the red onion, which treats hay fever with symptoms such as runny nose, itchy, and watery eyes. These are the very symptoms onion would cause when cutting an onion in the kitchen. Remedies act as a catalyst by stimulating the body’s own healing mechanism.

The focus of the homeopath is to use the most rapid, gentle and permanent restoration to the health of an individual. Healing occurs differently in every person and many factors have to be considered. In acute situations healing can occur in moments, but in chronic diseases it can take some time to get back to a state of health.
